When all this began, I was looking for an opportunity to share information, ideas, and experiences that revolve around what is quickly becoming the normal family.

 

I am talking about a family that has parents and step parents, what some people call a "blended family".

My Story

Ah, the fairy tale life that awaits all of us... Have you dreamt of the fairytale? The one with the prince or the white knight who sweeps you off your feet?

I think about the fairytale and look back over the years, especially in the beginning when I was planning my wedding. So young, so naive... to believe that love is the answer and that is all you need.

Those of you considering entering into this world of "Step Parenting" I warn you... tread lightly! This is not for the weak of heart. To those of you courageous men and women who take the leap of faith, my heartfelt hope that all is well!

Believe me when I tell you this, there is no one or nothing that can prepare you for the life you are about to enter. There will be those who say to you, "You knew what you were getting into" and there will be many of those I told you so-ers. I say it is they who are living in a fantasy world. Listen up, there is absolutely nothing that can prepare you for the reality of your life as a step parent. I repeat, absolutely nothing.

The reality is so different from the dream/fantasy. Keep your chin up and know that you are not alone and there are so many people out there going through what you are going through. There are people who can provide support and comfort.

You will find out who your true friends are, because they will listen to you and offer you encouragement and support you and help to mend your broken heart - and they will do all of this without questioning or judging you. And they will never tell you "I told you so"
